June Newsletter

Hey Everyone,

I know this is one of the latest newsletters I have written. I usually get them out the first of the month but I have been so busy that I haven’t been able to do it but here it is. I have a lot to talk about so I am going to get right into it. Let’s first talk about Gimme A Go Fishing Adventures and fishing for shad and the trophy sturgeon. We have had a fair season on the trophy sturgeon this year. We have landed some giant fish. It is so awesome to see a 300-pound sturgeon blast out of the water and do a tail dance. You wouldn’t think that a fish like that would be so acrobatic but they are. We had one the other day jump 5 times and 3 of the jumps were less then 30 feet from the boat. They make great videos. But, it hasn’t been all red hot. We have had a few days this week that were pretty slow. When a weather front comes in those sturgeon just do not eat like usual. It’s not like they are migrating through like a salmon does. Those sturgeon are there but just off the bite. It’s kind of funny sometimes because when they are on the bite you only need a couple rods out to keep everyone busy but when they are off the bite you could have 10 rods out and it wouldn’t matter. I guess this is what makes fishing for these great white sturgeon so fun. I will be fishing the trophy sturgeon through the first week of July. I still have a couple dates open the first week of July. I have room for a couple people on July 1-3, I have a open boat available July 4-6. Give us a call if you are interested in doing some trophy sturgeon fishing during that time we can also do combo trips for trophy sturgeon and steelhead. The steelhead will start running the first part of July. Also, I still have room in the afternoons for shad fishing. This is a fun fishery for everyone. Lots and lots of fish to catch. The mornings have been a bit slower for shad fishing but the afternoons have been very good. Also, I am going to be fishing one week in the second week of September for salmon here on the Columbia River. The full days are already booked but I will start booking half days and the afternoon salmon bite can be good sometimes so let me know if you are interested in that.
The end of July I will be heading to Prince of Wales Alaska. I was going to be heading there July 15th but my son will be graduating from boot camp the end of July and I am not going to miss that. We are very proud of him and by the way he is doing great but I can’t wait to get there to Alaska after his graduation. I sure was jealous to hear how well they did up there on the spring steelhead. They had a group the latter part of May catch 92 steelhead in 6 days. That is a lot of steelhead. You can read about what is going on up there on our other web site www.thornebaylodge.com. We will keep you updated week by week of our hunting and fishing that is going on. We still have a couple spots available in August if you are interested and we are also booking of 2008. This spring the TV show Hawg Quest was up there and they had a great time and said they will be back. One of the guys I am working with up there got some great video of a monster black bear. He was trying to hunt it with his bow but just couldn’t get close enough. You can see a part of the video on the web site. It’s a dandy. I told him he was just letting it go for me when I get up there. I am looking forward to doing some hunting myself while I am there. I have never taken a bear with my bow and I am so excited to do that this year. I will let you know how that goes.
Talking about hunting, we will know about the left-over tags July 10th for our deer and antelope hunts in Wyoming. I will be sending an email out as soon as I know what is available. Last year there were over 1000 antelope tags left over and I was told they were gone in a week so when I let you know you will want to get on line and buy them. Then once you have bought your tags give us a call so we can get you on the books. The archery hunts are in September and we want to get you in for the last week. That is when the antelope are in full rut and they get a bit crazy at that time. The rifle deer and antelope hunts are in October. That is for mule deer or white tail deer. Then in November it is White tail deer and antelope only. You don’t want to hunt antelope too much past the first week of November because they are loosing their horns at after that. I am getting very excited about hunting with you all over there this year. It will be great. You just can’t believe how many animals there are over there. My 17 year old daughter wants to learn to guide so we will get her licensed up this year and let her start learning. I think she will do very well. We are heading over to Wyoming in July to start getting things ready. You can see more about our hunts at www.jonsoutdoors.com.
Well I can’t get out of here with out you hearing a bad joke so here it is. This guy walks into a bar and goes up to the bar to order a drink. As he is ordering his drink he notices a blond gal sitting beside him. He leans over to her and asks here if she would like to her a blond joke. All ruffled up she says you better wait on telling me a blond joke. You see this girl beside me? She is 5’ 8 and 165# and she is a world champion kick boxer and she is blond. The girl beside here is 5’ 10 and 185# and she is a champion boxer and she is blond. The girl beside her is 6’1” and 220# and she is a body builder and she is blond and the girl beside here is 5’ 10” and 240# and she is a weight lifter and she is blond. Now, do you want to tell me a blond joke? The guy jumped up and emphatically said NO NO there is no need for me to tell you a blond joke because if I have to explain it 5 times it just isn’t worth it.
Okay I am scrapping the bottom of the barrel for jokes but that is the best I have lately.
Anyway, give us a call if you are interested in any of these trips. We do have a couple days available for Columbia River fishing. There are still openings in August for a trip with us in Alaska and we will have left over tags and dates available for hunting with us in Wyoming.
Thanks and I will talk to you soon. Remember to take the opportunity and take a kid fishing or hunting with you. You will be blessed more then you can imagine.
